As the seasons change, it’s normal for our skin to feel the effects. Changing temperatures, humidity, and pollen can all profoundly impact the texture, tone, and elasticity of our skin. Each season requires a tailored approach to effectively navigate the skin challenges we experience. Read on to find out which treatments we recommend for the different seasons and what you need to know about each treatment.
Spring is the seasonal signal for refreshment and rebirth. However, many of us know that Spring also introduces a host of skin issues. Pollen-related allergies can cause rashes and irritation or worsen eczema. As the days get longer and warmer, many experience increased breakouts and inflammation due to oil production imbalances. The following treatments can help you usher in a new season with clear, glowing skin.
For clients seeking non-surgical skin rejuvenation, we suggest chemical peels. These potent chemical treatments reduce hyperpigmentation, age spots, lines, and wrinkles while promoting collagen production. Chemical peels have the added benefit of clearing breakouts and minimizing the appearance of acne scarring.
We recommend a chemical peel within the first week of Spring to avoid sun exposure for seven days. Consequently, your skin will be radiant, smooth, plump, and ready for a new season by the time it’s hot enough to spend time outdoors.
Laser skin resurfacing is a stimulating treatment that does not damage the skin surface. Laser resurfacing is an excellent option when you’re looking for a non-invasive way to look more youthful, treat sun damage, and improve skin hydration. We offer LaseMD and Erbium 1540 skin resurfacing with minimal downtime and incredible results.
LaseMD penetrates deep into the skin without damaging the outer dermis. After a LaseMD treatment, most clients have few visible signs of the procedure. You may experience minor redness and flaking during the healing phase, after which your skin will be completely refreshed. Erbium 1540 is another non-ablative treatment that we recommend for scars, stretch marks, large pores, and wrinkles.
While divine, Summer means immense heat and humidity that can cause clogged pores, hyperpigmentation, and rapid skin aging. It’s essential to give your skin the attention it needs to look its best. We recommend two treatments to our clients during summer: PRX-T33 and IPL Photofacials.
PRX is the ideal skin rejuvenation treatment for summer as it provides the effects of chemical peels without peeling. Administered as a relaxing facial massage, PRX uses trichloroacetic acid, kojic acid and hydrogen peroxide to improve skin tone and texture. Post-treatment care is simple with the clinic-provided products, resulting in clear, plump skin that radiates vitality and youthfulness.
Skinvive injectables contain hyaluronic acid microdroplets specifically formulated to improve cheek smoothness. Skinvive treatments provide incredible results that look entirely natural. The hyaluronic acid permeates the skin layers to promote deep, lasting hydration, creating a plump, youthful appearance. If you struggle with dull, lifeless skin during the summer months, Skinvive can replenish moisture and enhance elasticity.
In the fall, the shift from hot to cold starts slowly, gradually affecting the skin and leading to dryness and a pallid appearance. Fall med spa treatments should focus on restoring the natural balance of oils and preparing the skin for winter. Any skin damage caused by the summer sun will become more evident in fall as skin becomes flakey and bumpy. We recommend fibroblasting and laser hair removal to keep your skin in optimal condition for next year.
Also referred to as plasma pen treatment, Plasma IQ fibroblasting utilizes controlled micro-damage to promote healing. Plasma IQ is non-surgical, minimally invasive, and highly effective for treating wrinkles, stretch marks, acne, skin tags, and moles. Plasma IQ uses controlled bursts of plasma energy to trigger the skin’s natural healing response. The effects of this treatment can include tighter and firmer skin.
Starting laser hair removal treatments in Autumn is an excellent choice as it makes adhering to the aftercare guidelines easier. Laser hair removal requires several sessions with weeks of recovery in between, so starting early gives you time to complete your treatment before summer rolls around again. Laser hair removal also has the added benefit of treating ingrown hairs if you’re looking for a treatment that reduces the growth rate of unwanted hair.
Furthermore, laser hair removal can reduce the irritation caused by traditional methods like shaving and waxing. Treatments are scheduled based on the growth cycle of your hair, and the timeframe depends on the area you choose to treat.
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy is a treatment that uses high-intensity light to improve skin tone and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. IPL disrupts the concentration of melanin under the skin to treat hyperpigmentation. When the clusters of melanin are broken down by IPL therapy, they are either shed from the skin’s surface or naturally eliminated by the body.
IPL therapy requires diligent avoidance of sun exposure for two weeks before treatment, so it’s ideal to schedule during the winter. For seven days after treatment, you must also protect your skin from the sun, avoid wearing makeup, and keep your skin moisturized.
Microneedling is another procedure that is easiest to manage during winter. The treatment also requires no sun exposure for two weeks before your session. After treatment, you must also avoid excessive sweating for at least 48 hours, which is challenging during Spring and summer. We offer VIVACE RF and Rejuvapen microneedling treatments, both of which are FDA-approved.
Microneedling treatments are quick and easy to recover from, providing incredible results by increasing collagen and elastin production. Microneedling reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while tightening and toning the skin simultaneously. RF (radiofrequency) microneedling combines the traditional treatment with radiofrequency to enhance its effectiveness.
