IPL Photofacials

IPL Photofacials San Diego

Intense pulsed light (IPL), also known as a Photofacial, is a non-ablative treatment that delivers high-intensity light into the deeper layers of the skin to improve vascular lesions, redness, broken capillaries, and sun spots, while also helping firm the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

How IPL Photofacials in San Diego Work

IPL treatments in San Diego concentrate powerful, visible pulses of light onto a targeted area without damaging the surrounding skin. The light energy is absorbed by melanin and hemoglobin (red blood cells in the blood vessels). The intensity of light pulses damages the concentration of these structures within the skin, and as a result, are either absorbed and metabolized by the body or brought to the surface of the skin where they will shed along with regular skin function. While patients can see improved results after their first IPL Photofacial treatment, multiple IPL treatments in San Diego are recommended to obtain and maintain optimal results.

Disclaimer: IPL Photofacial results for each patient will vary. Please remember that the information provided will not guarantee your eligibility for IPL Photofacial treatment. Consultation and medical examination must be completed before approval.

Questions about IPL Photofacials

What can I expect from an IPL Photofacial treatment?

The IPL Photofacial is best suited for helping diminish red/brown-toned pigmentation in lighter skin types. Our nurses will best determine the correct light wavelength and frequency to best address your pigmentation concerns. The IPL Photofacial treatment itself is relatively painless; you might experience slight discomfort during the IPL Photofacial treatment. Darker pigmentation will be brought forward to your surface of the skin a few days post-treatment, but will then “crust” off in the following days.

How do I get the best IPL Photofacial results?

On average, our nurses recommend a series of at least 3 treatments every 4 weeks to address your skin’s concerns and maintain treatment results. Avoiding excess sun exposure is key for maintaining your treatment results; an SPF 40 or higher is recommended for daily use.

Is a IPL Photofacial treatment safe for me?

An IPL treatment is safest for skin types 1-3 on the Fitzpatrick Scale. At The Laser Café, if an IPL Photofacial treatment is not safe for you, we have many other treatments that are safe for all skin types.  Our nurses will access if an IPL treatment is safe for you and if not discuss alternative treatments.

Sun exposure before an IPL Photofacial treatment is not permitted.  Please wait 4 weeks after sun exposure to get treatment.

How does an IPL photofacial treatment work?

IPL Photofacial treatments work by emitting intense light into the melanocytes of the skin, causing micro damage to areas with congested pigmentation.

Are IPL Photofacials safe for all skin types?

IPL Photofacials are safe for patients with a skin type 1-3 on the Fitzpatrick skin scale. Certain ethnic backgrounds and/or patients with hormonal pigmentation are not candidates for an IPL treatment.

What are the benefits of an IPL Photofacial?

IPL Photofacial is a non ablative, noninvasive treatment for fading dark spots, age spots, sun spots, and red capillaries found in the skin.

Can an IPL photofacial treatment remove age spots?

An IPL photofacial can safely treat and fade age spots over the span of multiple sessions.

How long does it take to see the results of an IPL Photofacial treatment?

While improved results may be observed after a single treatment, we recommend at least 3-4 IPL Photofacial treatments to ensure the best results.

Are IPL photofacial results permanent?

IPL Photofacial results may be permanent as long as patients follow post-treatment instructions well and avoid further skin damaging activities, such as avoiding excessive sun exposure.
