how laser hair removal works

Laser hair removal in San Diego are designed to target the hair follicle directly with a high concentration of light and heat energy, which disrupts the melanin production in the hair shaft and disrupts the growth cycle of the hair.
Laser hair removal treatments are scheduled according to the growth cycle of the hair (4-6 weeks for face and 6-8 weeks for anything below the face). For the most long-term, optimal results, we recommend our patients undergo 9-12 laser hair removal treatments per area. However, certain areas may require more laser hair removal treatments in San Diego than others, especially hormonal areas (lower face, areolas, and Brazilian).

Since the amount of laser hair removal treatments may vary on a case by case basis, we offer our laser hair removal treatments in packages of three so that our patients may have more flexibility with payment and can customize their own laser hair removal treatments to best suit their laser hair removal treatment objectives.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What can I expect with a treatment for laser hair removal in San Diego?

keyboard_arrow_down

Our nurses will determine the best laser and frequency to treat your specific hair type after the initial consultation. Shaving within a 12 hour window of the appointment is required; a closer shave to the laser hair removal appointment time will provide a better result and help reduce any discomfort during the laser hair removal treatment. The Splendor X laser is combined with a Cryo-Touch and Cryo-Air feature to reduce any sensation during treatments, while our nurses utilize ice packs on laser hair removal treatment areas when performing treatments with the Duet Sheer laser. You might feel a slight “rubber band snap” sensation on more sensitive treatment areas. Redness and slight sensitivity on laser hair removal treatment areas is common within the first few hours following treatments.

2. How do I get the best result from my laser hair removal treatment in San Diego?

keyboard_arrow_down

On average, we recommend 9 to 12 laser hair removal treatments per area for the most optimal, long lasting results. Results do vary on a case-by-case basis: some more hormonal areas (ie. Brazilian, lower face) tend to require more sessions, while other non-hormonal areas (arms, legs) respond well after fewer sessions. We will schedule your laser hair removal appointments according to the growth cycle of the hair: for laser hair removal on the face, your appointments will be every 4 to 6 weeks. For laser hair removal on the body, your appointments will be every 6 to 8 weeks. The best way to obtain the most long lasting, optimal results is to stay consistent with the treatment schedule.

4. Will I need a touch-up in the future?

keyboard_arrow_down

Once completing multiple sessions of laser hair removal, you might require a few touch-up sessions every few years to maintain the laser hair removal treatment results. Certain life changes (i.e. pregnancy, changes in medication, aging) can affect the regrowth of previously treated hair follicles. However, the hair that might return will be overall much more receptive to treatment compared to untreated hairs.

5. Does laser hair removal in San Diego hurt?

keyboard_arrow_down

Laser hair removal is not a painless treatment; the sensation can be most similar to that of “rubber band snaps” on the skin. However, our nurses will ask our patients how their sensation is on a scale of 1-10 in order to adjust the treatment levels to a tolerable setting.

5. Does laser hair removal in San Diego work permanently for facial hair removal?

keyboard_arrow_down

Laser hair removal is not permanent hair removal, but it is permanent hair reduction. With continued treatment, patients can notice a decrease in the frequency of hair regrowth and hair thickness. Pregnancy, medication changes, hormonal changes, and the usual aging process can affect hair regrowth post-treatments. Touch-up sessions are required to maintain treatment results after initial treatments are completed.

6. How long should one wait between laser hair removal sessions?

keyboard_arrow_down

For any treatment areas from the neck up, appointments are scheduled 4-6 weeks apart. For any treatment areas from the neck down, appointments are scheduled 6-8 weeks apart.

7. How safe is laser hair removal in San Diego? Is it better than waxing?

keyboard_arrow_down

Laser hair removal is a safe, medical-grade treatment. All treatments are provided by board-certified registered nurses as instructed by a medical director. While waxing may provide a more instant result for a cheaper price, it can also come with the downside of constantly having to get waxed more frequently with potential skin irritation issues. Waxing does not actively change the size of the hair follicle, while laser hair removal does.
