The advances in laser technology have made it possible for us to treat various skin pigmentation on most common areas such as the face, bikini line, chest, back and underarms. The procedure is not invasive, but you’d be wise to consider the benefits of laser hair removal, aftercare and the best time to go for your laser hair removal sessions.
This blog covers some considerations and aftercare tips you should make to help you to get the best results.
You may think that laser hair removal therapy is not invasive and that you can go back to your routine and daily life without worrying about aftercare. However, as we advise on what you shouldn’t do before you come for an appointment, we also have a few laser hair removal aftercare tips that you should follow for the best results.
Tip #1: Avoid the Sun
The first thing you’d do well to consider in summer is sun exposure. Your lifestyle and how often you spend time outside in the sun will play a significant role in whether you should consider laser hair removal in winter or summer. However, it is advisable to avoid the sun as far as possible for two weeks before and after a session. Do not tan or put fake tan products on your skin as it will be sensitive after the laser treatment.
Tip #2: Think About the Areas Where You Want to be Lasered
If you spend a lot of time working outside or exposed to the sun, it is best not to have exposed areas lasered in the summer. The UVB and UVA rays of the sun can still affect your skin, even if you don’t actively sit and tan in the sun. Your skin will be more sensitive during laser treatments, and it is best to do exposed areas during winter when more of your skin is covered up. Your underarms and bikini line are the best target areas for laser hair removal in the summer.
Tip #3: Be Conscious of Laser Hair Removal Aftercare Tips
Here are a few aftercare tips that can help you after a session, regardless of the season.
- Always wear SPF cream and protect your skin, regardless of whether you have laser treatments.
- If you feel your skin is dry after a laser treatment in the summer, you can apply aloe vera or fragrance-free lotion, arnica or steroid cream to soothe, heal and hydrate.
- You can use anti-inflammatories such as Tylenol if you need it after your appointment.
- During our initial consultation, we always advise you to shave before your appointment. Your hair growth cycle takes about 4 to 5 weeks, depending on the area, and it is best not to shave after your appointment to give the hair time to regrow before you come for another laser appointment.
- This might be difficult for you not to do, but for the next few days, do not apply deodorant to the affected area as it will irritate your skin and cause discomfort.
- Avoid any scrubs or scented lotions for a few days after treatment. Any exfoliation of fragrance might lead to bumps or rashes on your skin. Essentially, give your skin time to recover and do not put anything on it that might irritate it further.
- Avoid soaking in water and exercising for two days after the treatment to avoid infection, scarring or hyperpigmentation.
During our initial consultation, we will give you all the information you need to make the best decision for your skin. If your lifestyle allows for most time spent indoors, your risk of sun damage will be lower, and it is safer for you to get laser treatment on all areas of your body. We will always have your best interests at heart and will do the treatments during the season or time that will cause the least inconvenience and risk to you. Book your consultation with us today.
