When you want to diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face, Botox® can help. At the Laser Cafe, we believe it’s our duty to our clients to not only provide them with Botox® treatments but give them a way to learn about how to prepare for their Botox® appointment.
Our team takes a personalized approach with every client. During a consultation, we can help you set realistic expectations for your treatment for Botox® in San Diego. We can also help you identify areas that you may want to have treated during appointments. Our team will also provide you with detailed aftercare tips that will help ensure they get the results they’re looking for.
1. Getting Ready for Your Appointment for Botox® in San Diego
Before your procedure, we recommend that you refrain from taking blood thinners or NSAIDs a week before your appointment as they can cause increased bleeding. We also ask our patients not to drink or smoke for at least two days as it heightens their risk of bleeding. You may want to consider icing treatment areas a day before your appointment because it may help to minimize bruising.

2. What You Can Expect During Your Botox® Appointment
On average, Botox® injections block any movement in the muscles for up to three months. It’s important to remember that this timeline will be different for every person. The number of units we use varies on your expected results and the muscles in the treatment areas. You may require more units for subsequent visits as your body develops antibodies that attempt to stop this neurotoxin from working. Treatment will take just a few minutes. Although you may experience mild discomfort at the treatment areas, the end results will be well worth it!

3. Botox® Aftercare Tips
During your consultation, we will discuss successful aftercare tips that will ensure you get your desired results. Ultimately, the goal of Botox® aftercare is to minimize bruising and swelling. In most cases, there will be no reason why you can’t resume your regular schedule following your appointment.
Some aftercare tips after getting Botox® include:
- Gently exercise your face. While you should avoid touching or rubbing your treatment areas, moving your eyebrows, smiling or frowning can help in adjusting to your new look.
- Wait at least 24 hours to exercise (avoid bending or lying down for at least four hours). Exercise increases blood flow, which can spread Botox® to unintended areas.
- Avoid caffeine consumption for a few hours as it can lead to increased swelling.
- Refrain from hot showers, tanning beds, hot tubs, or saunas for at least four hours after your appointment. Also, you will want to wait at least an hour to apply any makeup on or around the treated area.
- Use serums with antioxidants afterward to help heal your skin.
- We recommend waiting at least a week to get a facial, microdermabrasion, or another facial treatment after Botox®.
We will go over additional aftercare tips with you so that you can achieve the best possible results for your Botox® treatment.
