- Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal works best on dark, thick hair and light skin. At our medical spa, we welcome all clients for laser hair removal. We apply two different laser technologies: one laser works best on coarse, thick hair, while the other is ideal for tanned and darker skin. Our lasers reduce hair growth on any skin or hair type. Unless you have a skin condition, you are likely a suitable candidate for this treatment. However, we will consult with you first or recommend another treatment should you not be a suitable candidate.
- How Many Treatments Do I Need?
Knowing how many sessions you need would be best to understand how the laser and hair growth process works. The laser targets hair during its growth cycle. Because hair grows at different rates, all hair won’t be targeted during one session. Hair growth occurs in cycles of four to six weeks on the face and six to eight weeks on the rest of the body. If you think of how many hair follicles you have on your body and that they might all be at different cycles, you will understand why we recommend regular laser hair removal appointments for optimal hair growth reduction.
- What Type of Equipment Do You Use?
We always ensure that our clients receive the best treatment at the best price at our medical spa. To ensure that we cover all clients’ needs and cater for all skin tones and hair textures, we have two different lasers that work best on individual hair and skin tone. The Lumenis LightSheer Duet laser is a diode laser operating at an 800nm wavelength that penetrates deeply and is perfect for thick, stubborn hair. At the same time, the Lumenis Splendor X laser works with wavelengths and Alexandrite at different frequencies and is ideal for darker skin types or can be adjusted for lighter skin tones.
- Will I Need Any Downtime?
It is not a surgical, invasive procedure, and you won’t need downtime or special healing time after a session. Your skin will be slightly irritated, and we do advise that you avoid swimming, waxing or lotions for 48 hours after your session to give your skin time to recover. We will discuss any concerns during our consultation and give you more laser hair removal aftercare tips.
- Any Side Effects I Should Be Aware of?
If you have experienced rashes, eczema, or any skin condition before, we can always do a patch test and see how your skin reacts to the laser. The worst side effects you should experience are redness, itching, discoloration and irritation at the laser site. If you visit a center that doesn’t use the best equipment and professionally trained staff, you risk a harmful outcome and infection and pain at the laser site. This is not common when you visit a professional spa for the best laser treatment.
